Every year I set myself a few goals, just a few things I want to work on throughout the year. Last year I wrote them out and made a pretty graphic, but didn’t do anything with it. I shared it with the 5 people who actually read my blog last January and that was that. Honestly before I started writing this post I couldn’t even remember what my goals were. Needless to say I sucked at my goals…didn’t reach them.
This is in total contrast to my 2012 goals. I met every single one of them (and there were a lot). I got to thinking about what was different and why I was so much more successful that year. I realized that the biggest difference was how I treated my goals after I made them. In 2012 I created a specially sized photo for each goal and displayed them in a frame on my bedroom wall. I saw them every morning when I woke up and every night when I went to bed. Seeing them every day helped keep them front and center in my minds all year long. Sorry about the terrible photo, it was before I started blogging and/or taking decent pictures.
So that brings us to this year. I am going back to the photo display method. I am scaling it back a bit though. I have a crazy schedule and a lot to juggle so this year I went with seven goals. Enough to keep me on my toes and yet few enough to actually accomplish them. So in no particular order here they are.
- 52 new recipes – I am tired of eating the same handful of meals each week. This is a way to ensure that we get something new and different at least once a week (although I am not committing to 1 a week, just 52 in a year!)
- Learn something new – I keep kicking around the idea of taking some continuing education classes. I’m not sure if I will find something that I like locally, but we’ll see!
- Get dirty – A couple of years ago I did the warrior dash, this year I want to complete a dirty dash!
- Give time to Joseph, take time for me – everyone needs the time and space to do their own thing and be their own person.
- Twelve Pinterest pins – I tried this last year. I think the fault in my logic was picking specific pins. I completed far more than 6 this past year, just not the ones I thought I would.
- Double my blog – twice as much of everything! Followers, comments, income, page views- you name it I am going to double it! I am one year in to a four year plan to turn this little blog into a full time job. I figure if I can double up every year, by the time my littlest goes off to school I will be able to stay home and work for myself (or for you guys- depending on how you look at it!)
- Get published – this is kind of a scary one to put out there. I would like to have one of my projects published in a real live magazine (online or in print). Eeeep…this one definitely scares me, I am totally worried I won’t accomplish it…
It’s a pretty big variety of goals, and while some of them are a little vague they leave more room for small victories. I’m all about setting myself up for success! Once I had them all made up in Photoshop and sent off to print at the photo lab I needed to get my frame ready. This frame is an oldie and a goodie. It originally was filled with pictures of the kids, but was transformed into a dry erase menu board a couple of years ago. When I created the chalkboard menu in our kitchen I no longer needed it. It is a really nice choice for a year long goal display because each goal is given is own place to stand out and be seen. I debated for a long time between putting it in my craft room or my bedroom. I ultimately decided to hang it in my bedroom at the foot of our bed. This spot is directly in between our tv and our closet and it is a spot that I look at 100 times a day. I know this will help me reach my goals. Here’s to a new year!
