Having a vacation is always something exciting to look forward to. It’s nice to get out of town for a little bit and break your usual routine. Vacations are what I like to use if I find myself needing a fresh perspective on life, and sometimes the best way to do that is to take a luxury vacation. You may be used to living on a tight budget and strict schedule, but on a luxury trip, you’ll be able to let that all go and spend your time doing more positive and enjoyable things.
At least once a year, I take a luxury trip to remind myself that I’m worth splurging on. I go wherever I feel like relaxing without a travel plan or stops to make. Even without spending money on tickets to tourist attractions, luxury trips do require you to spend a lot of money. Sometimes when it comes time to swipe my card, the total can make me cringe a bit.
That’s why I’ve come up with some ways to save money even while I’m on a luxury vacation. After all, what’s the point of spending a lot on a trip where I’m just going to be stressed out about money all the time? I can do that just as well at home! If you’re planning to take a luxury trip any time soon, you should definitely read up on things I do to keep my money in my wallet whenever possible. When you get home and don’t have extra bills to pay off, you’ll thank yourself!
Cook Your Own Meals
Going out and buying each meal from a restaurant will put a major dent in your checking account! Think about it. Not only do you have to put gas in your tank or pay a driver to get you there, you also have to pay tax on your meal and tip the staff. Then you’re using money to get back to the hotel! I got tired of this so fast, so I decided to cook for myself instead.
Being in control of what you eat will save you cash and help you make healthier choices too. I know when I’m away from home, I’ll make the excuse that I can eat bad while I’m away because I’m on vacation. If I’m cooking for myself, it’s more likely that I’ll eat what’s better for me. Plus it’s nice to have that taste of home while you’re in a new place!
Take Advantage of Luxury Hotels
Luxury vacations mean something different to everyone. Some people splurge on entertainment and others on the travel itself, but I like to put my money into luxury hotels. They offer so much to make you feel like your stay is worth your money. You can get the most out of your stay by checking out what’s offered to guests. See if there’s a spa or exercise room. Some luxury hotels have rooftop bars and restaurants with discounts for guests. Every hotel is different, so do some exploring when you check in.
Look into Discounts
The word “discounts” always makes me think of coupons, which are great to use but don’t even begin to cover the discounts you can take advantage of while on vacation! There are some great discount sites for travelers that always help me save money on things I normally wouldn’t think could be cut back. Don’t think that because you’re thinking of doing a luxury vacation that you can’t still get some things for half price. It all depends on where you look!
Don’t Stress About Everything
Even if I go into a vacation telling myself not to get stressed, I inevitably find things to freak out about or obsess over. If I don’t know where I’m going on the next day, I’ll frantically buy tickets to a show or reserve a spot at a restaurant. Sometimes truly destressing takes effort.
That’s why I’ve thought up a few ways to not stress out on vacation. I always make sure that before I get to my destination, I’ve resigned myself to the idea of not having an itinerary and that all my research has been done. If I know where to grab groceries and an extra change of clothes, I’ll know I’m all set.
My once a year luxury vacations have been some of the best I’ve ever had. Even if I do nothing but lay around on the beach or relax in the hotel spa, it’s nice to spoil myself with a luxury hotel or five star restaurants. The key is to save money where you can so you keep your stress to a minimum while you’re away. Cook for yourself and look for discounts where you can. It’s possible to vacation in luxury while still saving money, as long as you plan ahead and stick with your budget.
