One of the things I have been working on a lot this past year is having my kids help out more around the house. Both my husband and I are working full time now and neither of us have a ton of time (or energy) to clean the house each night. We started off by teaching or son how to do laundry. He is now responsible for washing, drying and putting away all of his own laundry. It’s pretty much amazing. We’ve slowly started adding chores in for our daughters as well, making sure that they were things they could easily be successful at.
The first one we taught them was how to dust. Now this might seem like a no brainer, but my kids had a tendency to just move the dust from one spot to another. I picked up a box of these Clorox dust wipes at Target (hello cartwheel!). They have two sizes, regular and XL. The XL ones are meant to be used with a sweeper, but the regular ones were awesome because unlike the dry rags we were using, these clothes cling to the dust without the mess of a wet rag.
I might have had an ulterior motive for her dusting…I wanted to repaint the backs! The next job we added was cleaning the kitchen counters. The kitchen is one of the dirtiest rooms in our house and I swear that mess belong 90% to the kids. Food on the counter, fruit flies by the compost and dishes for days! I had my son load the dishwasher and then I gave my middle daughter Clorox kitchen scrub singles. They are perfect for this because there is no fear of over soaping or messy sponges that hold tooooo much water. This cleaning rag packs all the punch of a grown up sized cleaner, with none of the hassle.
The last job we added in was cleaning the dining room table. Our middle daughter loved cleaning the kitchen counters so much we decided to capitalize on the fact our girls love scrubbing. I gave my middle the Clorox Pump’N Clean and a clean rag. She loved that she could pump the solution herself and I loved that it didn’t spill everywhere in the process. Then she scrubbed the table until it shined. The best part about this product is that it is food safe so even if they don’t get it all cleaned up it’s not going to make us sick.
